We met at the Lakes Roadhouse in the late afternoon around 5:00pm. Ten vehicles turned up, which was awesome considering it was only 3 weeks notice. I met some new faces I hadn’t seen before and some old friends too.

We held a quick drivers meeting, with Tony choosing ‘heads we go east’, when the coin was tossed and tails meant we were heading west from Talbot West Road. Tony volunteered to go tail-end Charlie in his big Nissan, so they all followed me out onto the highway and onto Talbot West Road. We turned right onto the track and aired down to around 20 psi. The rock lights and fog lights went on and then we headed off.
The track was very dusty, but as the sun went down and the cold air brought a little dampness with it, the dust settled, making the air crisp. We travelled along passing only one other vehicle that was going the opposite way. We stopped at Ngangurring Hill, which is the hill the track goes past, (that it is named after) for a short break. From here on, the challenges started with most taking on the challenges and conquering them. We came to play in an area where two of us went through the gullies that were as high was our 4wd’s and very tight, where one wrong move could mean panel damage.
I went through two of them and had a good time. The other vehicle went through and then went on to attempt a rutted climb that was very deep causing the 4wd to belly out. Tony and Peter drove over and recovered the vehicle safely. We all drove further on using lockers through the wombat holed climbs and where the dry track provided no grip. In some places, I guided the vehicles through by spotting the drivers with hand signals and radio guidance. We ended the night run with a fun play through the “flexy track” near Flynn Road and aired up by 9:00pm

.
Everyone seemed to enjoy it and all made it through in good time.
