Friday the others arrived. We had a great camp fire that was in a washing machine tub that Alan converted to a fire pit. It worked beautifully. Thanks Alan. On Saturday we left Alan and Wendy behind with their new Ford Explorer. We drove to the sandbar at Pallinup Bridge. There the fun started with Pam getting bogged, then Jim, then Kim. With Maxx Trax, snatch straps and reduced tyre pressures we moved on. Markus led us up a track with some very hairy sections, he made it to the top of a daunting looking hill for great views but Tony’s car was having trouble as it doesn’t have a lift kit. Jim rolled a tyre off its rim so the decision was made to turn around. Markus and Andrea came back down the hill with a few heart stopping moments. We then had lunch beside a smelly section of the inlet in the rain under Paul’s awning.
Next was Paperback Road (Tony and Christine went to Wellstead instead). This road was fun as we slipped and slid our way down the track to the Palinup River. Coming back along the track proved to be very interesting. The rain had continued making the track lethal. Kim and Lynn slid off the track as their road tyres found it too slippery so Markus snatched them up the track quite a way past more precarious washouts. There were stumps in the way too. Jim did lots of digging to improve the track but unfortunately he left his shovel behind. The track provided lots of video footage. Back to camp for another camp fire until the rain started
again. Sunday, the Easter Bunny was very generous, even the camp host got a bundle! Jim and Sandra left early to head home. Alan and Wendy left mid morning to head home too, The remaining convoy drove to pretty Boat Harbour, it was extremely popular.
Next was a annoying limestone track that led to great views of the beach. Morning tea was had on Long Beach. Pam got bogged turning around so Kim snatched her out. There was a steep incline leaving the beach with the track having dips, twists and turns.
Next we followed a fence line then over some gravel, rocks, mud and washouts. It was really slow going. Schooner Beach had Ilmenite in the sand and colourful cliffs. We went down a rocky descent through water then up an incline. Markus had to reverse out of a deep water hole. From Sandalwood Road we went to House Beach to air up. After 20km’s we were back on bitumen until the turn off to camp.
