Well to start, we’ve had a pretty good winter so the signs were good for a wet and muddy day. An uneventful trip down we all let our tyres down and started with the first track which started off dry but about half way up we caught up with another group of 4wdrivers that weren’t going anywhere. They decided their vehicles weren’t up to the task of the 2nd half of the hill so after a bit of reversing they pulled off onto a side track and let us through. Thank goodness for big tyres & lockers {V8’s are optional} it was very wet, muddy, washed out and steep.
Most of us got up without too much carry on but Chucky and Pete’s old 80 SRS Chunky had to try a bit harder and in the end Brad got up but Chunky and Steve took a side track out and still managed to find themselves at the bottom of another muddy washed out hill and they needed a tow to get up.
Following the usual circuit we went down another tricky track and crossed the river {I don’t know its name} and a few of us drove up a washed out section of the track which made the cars rock & lean right back to the point it felt like they might tip over, it made for good video footage but no one took any photos. We stopped for lunch and then continued up the next hill where right at the top there was a nasty jump up.
I had a few goes with no success so as I don’t believe in turning back I sent Tony up in his Cruiser to go as far as he could then winch himself the rest of the way. Once up he pulled me over and so on and so on. Every one gave it a good go {especially Pete} but nobody got up under their own steam. Again continuing on we drove a few more tracks had a look at a nice camping spot but it was only big enough for maybe 4 campers so not much good to a group of our size, crossed the river again and did another good hill climb then started to make our way back out to the main road.
It was a good day we all got pretty muddy and I think it was pretty challenging, thanks to all that came along…
