We met at 10am on the corner of Mundaring Weir and Bahen Roads in the Perth hills.
Despite the short notice for the trip, and the State election, we had a good turnout. After airing down, we followed a track underneath one of the smaller powerlines, with rocky sections, some washouts and loose gravel. A few vehicles were temporary immobilized, but managed to get over the obstacles with a bit more right foot action.
My plan to follow this track to the old Barton`s Mill Prison site came undone at the intersection of Gunjin Road due to dieback. After following Gunjin Road for a bit, we tried to get back to our powerline track, but had to do lots of track clearing, slowing us down a lot. I got stuck on a small stump, but thanks to Trevor`s sawing skills, was free in almost no time.
We had lunch somewhere on a track, surrounded by lots of trees and bushes. We had to do lots more track clearing, used some mountain bike tracks, (sorry) came to a locked gate, but eventually found our way back to a sealed road near the Perth Observatory, where we aired up.
Jeroen kindly took over as trip leader and invited all of us to his place for coffee and a game of pool, thanks Jeroen.
