This year the meeting place was at Wrights Bridge campsite. Mark and Catherine arrived first at around 4pm and luckily our favourite two back-to-back bays were available. The two bays were big enough for us to squeeze in the 6 cars who were camping. We waited up around the campfire until Peter arrived at around 9:00pm.
In the morning Anita and Anthony arrived on time at 8:30 and we set off for the first half of the day. As promised this year’s trip was to be medium difficulty instead of extreme. It wasn’t hard for me to find me dium grade tracks because unexpectedly the forest was as dry as I have ever seen it in the last 40 years. I still manage to find slippery sections which challenged a few and we made it back to camp for lunch.
After lunch we headed into more challenging terrain. My first sloppy trail was challenging enough. Then we took on the super slippery black soil hill, now known as Pete’s hill, which was slippery enough for fun but not too slippery so that everyone made it to the top. Then it was onto the creek track. The water was not too deep, but the climb out past Kim and Lynn bend was slippery enough that it stopped the heavy 200 series making it. After regrouping we headed to the wheel wash creek crossing to get most of the mud off the tyres before returning to camp at the sensible time of 3:30.
After another pleasant evening around the campfire we all settle down for the night.
Although a morning trip was contemplated, we all decided to head for home. A very pleasant trip which I will run again next year as a medium hardness trip.
